Top 15 Yard Sale Tips for Big Money!
1. ADVERTISE - Without proper advertisment, the people won't come. I'd suggest the first place to advertise would be on Craigslist.
It's free and very effective. Secondly, I would post at least 3 neon
colored signs at 3 major intersections with just the words with a black
marker that says "YARD SALE"
with arrows leading back to your location. It's simple and to the
point. More people than you imagine will show up. You can even use
balloons to attract more buyers.
2. MULTIPLY YOURSELF
- Ask your neighbors if they'd like to join in on the sale to create
even a bigger sale and crowd. Turn it into a multi-family or
neighborhood sale.
3. GET THINGS READY THE NIGHT BEFORE
- Be prepared! Gather your items days before the sell or at least the
night before and store it near the front door. Price your items by the
box (like clothes with one easy price) or use masking tape and black
permenant marker, which is easy to right on and peel off.
4. CASH ON HAND - It goes without saying. Be prepared! Get at least $30 of 1s & 5s
to have ready for change. Also wear a fanny pack for easy access to change.
5. DONT OVER PRICE - Everyone likes a bargin, including you! Things will move
a lot faster, if your items are priced right. Don't over pice your things...it's a
turn off. Good prices for average things range from .50 cents to no more than $5.
If it is something special or even expensive, It could go between 10 - $50
depending on what it is.
6. NEAT APPEARENCE -
Plan out how you're going to lay out your items. Keep related things
together, like household, pottery, glass, clothes, toys, etc. It makes
it easy for the shopper to spot what they want quicker and more money
for you!
7. PAYPAL - Offer to take paypal
if the customer does not have enough cash on hand. You can even take
credit cards via paypal with an easy device you just attach to your
phone and your customers don't even have to have a paypal account. more
8. BAKE SALE
- The best fast moving items are sweets. 2 Large Fresh baked home-made
cookies presented in large baggies with a ribbon around it will sell
like hot cakes! The better the presentation, the more you'll sell.
9. WATER - Water is cheap and convenient to sell. As long as it is presented right in a nice large bucket of ice, you will do okay.
10. TIMING
- It's okay to have the yard sale starting at 8am up till 3pm to max
out the most sells. People will still stop as long as they see your
stuff out.
11. WORK IN 2s or 3s. The more eyes you have, the better your sell will go.
It is also good to have more help in assisting customers, making change or watching your items.
12. HAVE A BAG of BAGS - to make it easier for the customer to take away their stuff.
13. HAVE A STASH OF FREE STUFF - It's always good to give back no matter what and you will be blessed.
